Over the next few weeks, officers from the Portland Police Bureau's Traffic Division will conduct enforcement missions that focus on the use of cellular telephones while operating a motor vehicle.
The law went into effect Jan. 1 and Police Commissioner Dan Saltzman has asked the Portland Police Bureau to assist in educating the public about it.
City staff say the upcoming missions will be conducted in different parts of the city and the goals of added enforcement are to educate drivers and modify future behavior to ensure the safety of all road users.
