WASHINGTON, D.C. – Thursday morning, Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02), chair of the House Aviation Subcommittee, chaired a hearing entitled “Disruption in the Skies: The Surge in Air Rage and its Effects on Workers, Airlines, and Airports.” The hearing was an opportunity for the subcommittee to examine the alarming increase in disruptive and unruly airline passengers, the causes, the effect on passenger and crew safety, and the enforcement of U.S. laws prohibiting such behavior.
As chair, Larsen is focused on ensuring aviation safety and enhancing the air travel experience for passengers. Earlier this year, Larsen and Rep. Peter DeFazio (OR-04), chair of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, encouraged Federal Aviation Administrator Stephen Dickson to use the full weight of federal law to protect airline passengers and crews ahead of the Inauguration amid multiple reports of incidents involving unruly passengers following the January 6 domestic terror attack on the U.S. Capitol.
