Members of the Portland Police Bureau took 50 local high school kids clothes shopping on Friday, March 19, as part of the Sunshine Division's Izzy's Kids program. The shopping spree was held at the Gateway Fred Meyer, on Northeast 102nd Avenue.
Each student received $150 and Fred Meyer provided a 10 percent discount on everything, so each student actually received $165 worth of clothes.
Each year hundreds of children participate in Izzy's Kids, which is a year-round program that allows Portland Police Officers to identify school-age children whose families cannot afford to outfit them with essential new school clothes.
Officers take the children shopping at area Fred Meyer stores on an ongoing basis. Students benefit by receiving the new clothing, while also having the opportunity to participate in a positive and fun experience with a Portland Police Officer.
