Dozens Arrested in Portland Protests Including Bridge Shooting Suspects

Police in Portland, Oregon, say they arrested dozens of people late Saturday and early Sunday as rowdy anti-Donald Trump protesters marched through downtown again. Police said the exact number of those arrested will be released mid-day Sunday.

Police also say they have arrested two 18-year-olds and charged them in the shooting of a protester on the Morrison Bridge early Saturday morning.

Steffon Marquise Corothers and Shamar Xavier Hunter have been charged with attempted murder and unlawful use of a weapon. Corothers was charged with one count of attempted murder. Hunter was charged with six counts of attempted murder.

Police say the men are suspected gang associates.

The demonstrations Saturday night happened despite calls from the city's mayor and police chief for calm.

Several hundred people took to the streets Saturday night and police arrested people after protesters threw bottles and blocked streets and light rail lines.

The gathering came after a news conference Saturday in which Mayor Charlie Hayes and Police Chief Mike Marshman urged people to restrain themselves after several days of marches that included violence and property damage as well as the Saturday shooting that left one person shot.
