The Delaware State University Tour Choir performed Sunday, March 15 at the Augustana Lutheran Church at Northeast 15the and Knott in Portland.

The 40-voice Choir is drawn from the larger Delaware state University Concert Choir, under the leadership of musical director Dr. Curtis Everett Powell. The students who make up this premier choral ensemble hail from Delaware as well as other states including New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, Connecticut and Washington, D.C.

Founded as a historically Black college in 1891, Delaware State University celebrates nearly 115 years of continuous existence and service. It is a public, fully accredited four-year institution located on 400 beautiful acres in Dover, Del., where more than 40 major courses of study are offered and more than 5,000 students attend.

The concert program performed at Augustana featured all forms of choral music, including choral works by African American composers including Nathan Carter, William Dawson, and Moses Hogan, among others.

The Augustana Jazz Quartet featuring Marilyn Keller, Shirley Nanette, Ron Steen, George Mitchell and Kevin Dietz preceded the concert, which was free of charge.
