The stepmother of Kyron Horman, the 7-year-old boy who has been missing since June 4, has been accused of trying to hire a landscaper to kill her husband. A landscape gardener reportedly has told law enforcement that Terri Moulton Horman offered him "a large sum" of money six or seven months ago to kill Kaine Horman, her husband and Kyron Horman's father. That's according to a report in The Oregonian newspaper, July 4. The article did not report the source of the allegation.
Investigators organized a phone conversation between the landscaper and Moulton Horman, the article says, but it was short and unproductive. When confronted directly with the allegations, Moulton Horman denied them.
Multnomah County Sherriff Dan Staton refused comment on the report. Staton last week reaffirmed that investigators are continuing to believe the Skyline elementary student is alive, because they have no evidence that he is not. Watch The Skanner News Video Here.
Kaine Horman moved out of the family home in northwest Portland June 26 taking the couple's 19-month-old daughter Kiara with him. Then, last week he filed for divorce and obtained a sealed restraining order that forbids Terri Moulton Horman from contact with him or their daughter. Kyron's mother, Desiree Young, flanked by her husband and Kyron's father, held a joint press conference, where she made an emotional plea to Terri Moulton Horman to cooperate with law enforcement and help bring Kyron home.
Law enforcement has refused to name any suspect in the case, but Terri Moulton Horman has come under close scrutiny. She has twice undergone questioning using a lie detector. Media outlets too have been scrutunizing Terri Moulton Horman. KATU's website reports that the state Department of Human Services opened a case to investigate her in 2005 after she was stopped for DUII with her older son, then 11-years old in the back of her car. She pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment, had her driving license suspended for six weeks and served 12 months on probation for the offense.
Kyron Horman was last seen at a school science fair, where his photo was snapped by Terri Moulton Horman. She told police she last saw the boy going towards his classroom inside the school.
The case has attracted speculation of all kinds on the internet with theories ranging from an unidentified kidnapper holding Kyron hostage to all kinds of conspiracies involving the parents.
