Fannie Lou Hamer was a leader of the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party. In 1964, the racially integrated group challenged the seating of an all-white Mississippi delegation to the Democratic National Convention. Mississippi Rep. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton opened with a searing take on Trump’s legal woes. “Donald Trump fell asleep at his own trial,” Clinton recounted to an amused crowd. “When he woke up, he’d made his own kind of history — the first person to run for president with 34 felony convictions.”

Investigators say the latest search for the remains of 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre victims has ended with three more containing visible gunshot wounds. State archaeologist Kary Stackelbeck said Friday the three are among 11 sets of remains exhumed during the latest search in Oaklawn Cemetery and that one of the three also had burn injuries

Many rural hospitals have closed in the last decade in the United States and a recent report from the Center for Healthcare Quality and Payment Reform says about 700 more are at risk of shuttering. Health advocates, hospital and clinic administrators and rural residents across the country say changing health outcomes and health care itself in rural America needs to start at the local level. That's especially true in communities of color that may lack trust in the medical field.
